Educator, Innovator, Writer. I'm fascinated by the world of change and the changing world. Join me in looking at sociological, artistic, philosophical angles on AI. Questions like: what makes us human, what is the evolution of creativity, what is the nature of truth, and how will we respond to impending change?
I approach AI with a mix of astonishment and apprehension. There are important dualities with this new territory: open vs closed systems; old vs new thought; use for good and for ill. Deepening our understanding will help us use this power for benefit. Along with thoughtful oversight and governance.

From bee pollinators to therapists, A.I. is here, inexorably. Would you like A.I. with that?
Where does culture come from? In addition to learning it from other humans, will we in the future learn culture from, and be shaped by, AI? Interesting observations and questions from folks at the Center for Human and Machines at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development.

These agents learn and play in a Smallville, sandbox world. Maybe a little creepy, too? Raises the concern of "parasocial" relationships that may not be appropriate.
One of so many examples of the scaling potential of AI. AlphaFold2 from Google DeepMind predicted the structures of 200 million proteins. This would have taken PhD biologists a billion years to do on their own.
Startling statistic and examples of misinformation. for this early generative AI chat bot.
Interesting categorization of the forms of narrative distortion and disinformation. This research from Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technology is from 2021. I imagine new forms may arise.
Love this AI-themed museum in San Francisco's Mission District, the Misalignment Museum. Includes live AI art, an AI-driven confession both, and a wall that reads, “Sorry for killing most of humanity.”
